Board Game Blitz

Board Games have become one of the hottest hobbies in recent years. With so many new games coming all the time, the question becomes which games are right for you. There are a number of ways to learn about games. You could check video reviewers on YouTube or other websites. You could read reviews, like those I post here or many other websites. But my favourite way to try new games is at a Board Game Blitz.

What is a Board Game Blitz?

This is a chance to get together in a store or gaming convention to try several games over a short period of time, typically 4 -8 hours. During this time players will have the opportunity to enjoy several games of varying length and complexity. Each round the organizer will supply a number of games that can be played in a specified timeframe and players will sit at a table with others. Players will gain points for a ranking based on how they do in the game. In subsequent rounds players will choose their next game with the order of choice based on their ranking.

Well, this sounds great, but what makes it the best way to try new games?

First off the organizer will typically only add games they enjoy, so someone passionate will be available to teach the game rather than trudging through a rulebook. You will also be playing with others that are trying new games in addition to those with experience. Sometimes you don’t get your first choice, but that is ok, either you will be trying something new or introducing others to something new to them. All of this combines to create a unique and fun gaming experience.

Where and when can you try a Board Game Blitz?

Heroes’ Beacon has scheduled a blitz to take place during International Table Top Day on April 29, 2017 at 4:00PM. The cost will be $10 per player, with the proceeds going toward gift card prizes, giving you a chance to purchase the games you have tried out. In addition to the Board Game Blitz, Heroes’ Beacon will be hosting many other games that day making it the perfect day to try a number of games.
