Batman is turning 80 years old! Detective Comics is hitting it’s 1000th issue this month. Batman was introduced by Bill Finger and Bob Kane in issue number 27 and has gone on to be one of the most important characters in all of comic books. With this in mind, I have put together a list of some of my favorite Batman stories.

5. Batman: Hush – This story invoilves someone sabotaguing Batman while he battles many of his rogues gallery. The mystery of who is Hush ties it all together.

4. Batman: The Court of Owls – In this story, Batman discovers an underground secret society that his been pulling strings in gotham much longer than it seem.

3. JLA: New World Order and Tower of Babel – in New World Order, we see how being the man with the plan can be what saves the world when the rest of the team is taken down by the martian. In Tower of Babel, we learn that sometimes Batman over plans and bad things can happen when the wrong person finds them.

2. Batman: The Killing Joke – While there is much controversy with some of the events of this book, this is perhaps the best story of interaction between Batman and the Joker.

Honorable Mention:

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns – considered by many, though I may not agree, to be the best Batman story ever told. Set in a not too distant future, a retired Bruce Wayne returns to the mantle of Batman to battle corruption.

1. Batman: The Long Halloween – In this epic storyline, Batman hunts down a killer who attacks only on holidays. This story showcases a Batman early in his career, battling some foes as they come into their own as super-villains.
