Cosplay Curious: Wig Wear and Care

Cosplay Curious: Wig Wear and Care

Wig Wear and Care We were a small, but mighty few this week, but I know I learned a lot just the same. This month we were focusing on wigs, how to wear them, style them, and care for them. Now, full disclosure, I’ve worn wigs. I have never styled them beyond a brush through or had to care for them- I’ve only ever borrowed them. So, I am guilty of a lot of ‘don’ts’- but…

Cosplay Curious: Building Armor

Cosplay Curious: Building Armor

I missed this week’s get together. Steve brought home a fantastic illness tht left me at home with a headache and a scratchy throat, whining that I was going to miss Cosplay Night and all the great tips and discussion on building armor. Thankfully, I was provided with some great notes and pictures from Tina and Alaurea! Thanks ladies!! Also, I have changed my cosplay plans slightly to fit better into the time frame between…

Price adjustments to comics and trade paperbacks

Price adjustments to comics and trade paperbacks

As of January 7th, 2015 all new comics and trade paperbacks will have a price adjustment to reflect the current exchange rate. This is not an adjustment we do lightly or something we wanted to do. When Heroes’ Beacon opened in October 2013 the exchange rate on the US Dollar was 5%. An amount we felt we could fairly easily absorb. Since then the exchange rate has gone up to 18%. That amount added on…

Onto the details… this is sort of a broad overview- we didn’t get into a lot of the more advanced stuff- gathering, stitch types, pleats… another time 😉   Some products that…

Cosplay Curious

Cosplay Curious

Last night was Heroes’ Beacon’s first Cosplay Night where a group of people – both new and veteran cosplayers, got together to chat about, you guessed it, cosplay. We had a very broad conversation last night including what projects we have done in the past, what we want to do in the future, what skills we want to learn, what topics we might like to talk about in the future. The atmosphere was very encouraging…

A Kidney, for Pete’s Sake Fundraising.

Since Heroes’ Beacon opened we have been involved with fundraising for good causes like the IWK with their Extra Life program.  We firmly believe in giving back to the community that gave to us and made our shop possible. With Extra Life done for another year we are going to focus on fundraising for something a lot closer to home.  Our dear friend and customer Pete Darling has been diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease and…

Beginner’s Guide to Fan Expo

Beginner’s Guide to Fan Expo

Steve and I (Tara) attended our first Fan Expo this year! It was their 20th anniversary and they had a fantastic lineup! It was also our first convention not in our home province. I have to admit, the size of Fan Expo was a bit of a shock. The convention space took up multiple floors in two buildings and approximately 120,000 people came through over the course of 4 days with the largest attendance being…
